Paul and Jack’s Tavern, Northtown’s neighborhood bar and grill, was established in 1948 by Paul and Jack Dunbar.

It’s the long-running community gathering place to grab a bucket of beers and watch college sports, The Chiefs, Royals baseball, and for hosting fantasy drafts and victory parties for North Kansas City High School Football.  It’s also the epicenter of NKC’s famed annual pre-St. Patrick’s celebration “Snake Saturday“. In recent years, the tavern has earned a reputation among locals for their food items– build-your-own-burgers, World Famous Chili, lobster nachos, spicy cheese curds and their signature Prime Rib special the first Friday of every month. Every summer, the outdoor concert series fills the air with the sounds of regional country, blues and rock and roll acts.

Most recently the torch was passed from long-running proprietor Mark McNelly, to tenured bar manager Brandi Smithmier– who bought her employer’s business out alongside her husband Bill Arrington in early 2019: ensuring the tradition of this North Kansas City bar continues on.
